You have to question the wisdom of the social media team at British Gas who thought it a wonderful idea to begin a Twitter based #AskBG campaign on the same day the company announces a 9.2% price hike beginning on November 23rd.
In May this year British Gas insisted their 6% increase made from bills last winter (an extra £75 per customer) would be used to “put off” a price hike for as long as possible. Today it would appear that “as long as possible” to British Gas, means about five months. If today they were under any illusion that a Q&A Twitter session was going to achieve anything but a major PR disaster, that illusion was soon shattered.
